Hi all,

Having no news from anybody in Louisiana after the hurricane, I hope that no Zoner was struck.

This report is original as it contains a number of unusual and useful things.

Alternatives ways of life :

Ecoconstruction :

Alain Dussort sent me a DVD of six very interesting films: “Ecoconstruction” This is about “home made” houses with different techniques : some with wood, some with clay, some with straw, etc. and interviews of people who have built them and live in them. This kind of houses cost about 26 000 fr, says the guy, which is about 4000 euros. The best is to build it with friends. You can get the CD from Alain for 20 euros at dussort@wanadoo.fr . It is worth it. Full of teachings, and the results look really nice.

Alain is part of a group who is making a SCI (society to get a property) to get a farm with 40 hectares. The main buildings are collective and they are going to “home make” a small village.

It is nice to hear about such projects, as it shows that it is possible to realize.

Ecobuilders needed :

One more info Alain sends as well : In the same region, about 10 kms far, there is a hamlet, Baluet, which was sqatted since 1999 ; since last year, the « autognomes », as they call themselves, borrowed 56 000 euros to two friends to buy the hamlet and restored it with 10 hectares and they have 40 hectares in common which are going to be sold at auctions by one of the heirs. On the hamlet, which is a place to welcome travellers , there are self made individual ecobuildings and a common house. The association “La Sauce Baluet” owns the 95% of the society, and Alain is one of the members.

This weekend there was a feast for a meeting of 200 people.

In the area, another association: "Le mille pattes" (the Centipede) bought a hill of 20 hectares in 1999, with woods and a Cathare castle in ruins. The money came from a concert with Léo Ferré, Higelin et Manitas who played for free to finance the project, so they bought the place. Instead of petrol, one can put vegetable oil in cars engines. It requires to make oil with an oil press http://www.oilpress.com/type70d.htm In the site http://www.roulemafleur.free.fr/, a group of people has bought a press for 10 000 euros, by parts of 150 euros. Each user buys his own seeds and can press up to 1000 liters per year (3 tons of seeds) . Interzone collage :

I have received some pictures after the proposition of a Zone collage, and sent them to Paul. He answers : “If there's a paricular format you'd like the collage to take you'd better let me know i.e. if you want all the willing members in one picture things might get a bit crowded - OK but might end up looking like Sgt Pepper sleeve cover - or could make a suite of collages using as many as possible in each picture. The latter would allow more creativity, but understand if you would prefer a 'family group' creation...in which case I'll hold fire until all participants have arrived...”

So one suggestion here : We might make a Johnson family group collage, and as well a succession of images on the web with collages, and write a story going on with it. So each page would be a page of a book we can then print and sell.

Interzone song :

The idea of the Interzone song has been appreciated. Michel Cousy made a version which he has put on his sites at http://hybria.free.fr/cariboost1/cariboost_2.html & www.hybria.new.fr and you can listen to there.

So I thought that we might make a compilation on the theme of Interzone, using the text of the songs to make understandable Burroughsian concepts people do not access to out of Burroughs’ books : dreamachine, Johnson family, third mind, Brion Gysin, etc…, the same way we had done the compilation 1.

Concerning the previous compilations, we made Interzone compilation 1, gathered by Paul Sinclair, and Pierre Belouin made Music for Dreamachine with his label, created for the circumstance, Optical Sound. We had started another compilation “The Last Words of Hassan Sabbah”, from Burroughs’ text, including the different translations in the frame of the group. But due to some stupid and irrelevant identification between the historical man who actually lived, and the character of the legend of assassins spread by Marco Polo, the project is presently stopped, due to the misunderstandings it may lead.

So I thought that we might make a compilation on the theme of Interzone, using the text of the songs to make understandable Burroughsian concepts people do not access to : dreamachine, Johnson family, third mind, Brion Gysin, etc…, the same way we had done the compilation 1, as it reveals itself simple and not involving money : the different musicians send the files to somebody who gathers them , puts them on CD or DVD, and sends a copy to each musician who can then copy the CD and sell it to his scale. We can also sell it through the net.

Paul Watson has unveiled a limited series of 100 collages called the Principia Discordia, along with an experimental new way of selling artwork.
