For the new comers: The reports of Interzone contain the monthly activities of the members of the group in different domains. As we are about 300 people in the world, all different, the whole might appear at first sight as an incongruous medley. For more information on the subjects developped here, please refer to the previous reports since 1997 in the page Information on Interzone

William BURROUGHS and Brion GYSIN

by Paul O'DONOVAN

Hi all,

 PC crash :

I have had a PC crash and had to reinstall Windows. So I lost some data, mainly the new contacts since July 2003. As a result, I had to remake the lists of the Zone's members, and some people might have been included by error, so if you receive this mail without asking for it, please send a mail with "Unsubscribe" in the title to baudron@interpc.fr and accept my apologies for the disturbance.

Looking for a publisher for Lyman Andrews's books :

Born in Denver Colorado 1938, Lyman Andrews was a close friend of Allen Ginsberg & Robert Lowell amongst other writers with whom he maintained a lifelong contact and also knew Bill Burroughs in Tangiers & London. After University of California Berkley & King's College London he had four volumes of poetry published inc The Death Of Mayakovsky - Kaleidoscope..., and settling in UK became poetry critic for the Sunday Times & Lecturer in American Studies at University of Leicester.

He was also a defence witness for John Calder & Marion Boyars (his publishers) during the trial in 1967 bought against them by the Crown for the publication of "Last Exit to Brooklyn" (It was at the celebratory party afterwards when he first met Burroughs - at first mistaking him for a butler being dressed in dark suit and tie)

Following the death of Marion Boyars, he is now without a publisher and his books out of print. He is still writing and seeking a new publisher for a"New & Selected" volume of his work published in his lifetime. For contacts : Paul O'Donovan paul.odonovan@virgin.net

 A Zone meeting for 2005 ?

In his interview put on line last month at http://www.geocities.com/clemsnide23/ramuntcho6.html, Ramuntcho Matta spoke about Interzone, and said that we should make an event, a meeting from time to time. The idea is great , but not easy apply, due to the problems of distance, hosting, etc. What do you Zoners thinks about it ?

Academie 23 :

The Yahoo club Academie 23 at http://fr.groups.yahoo.com/group/academie23/ has started to work. I went to see a solicitor here to have an idea of houses for sale, following some requests from Zoners interested in moving abroad. There is a lot for sale, but I could not get much information as I did not need to buy anything myself at the moment. But to give you an idea, a small house for sale : 2 big rooms, no repair needed, a garden around with a piece of land for 46 000 euros. I could not get any info about the price of land. But I found a lot of info on the net in sites of sales from person to person. It comes out that land is affordable : see in the site http://www.pap.fr/ : look at "Terrains" in the menu : for 10 000 euros, you can have a "livable" (viabilisé) piece of land , which means with electricity, water. Also at http://www.entreparticuliers.com/ .

Actually, if a group of people wanted to maked it together, it's possible to buy a large piece of land with barns on it, near a river or with some woods on it, and then manage with it, feed oneself from the place (garden, fish, poultries, ...).

Site "La Sémantique Générale pour tous":

Since a long time I wanted to make a site of general semantics, with the French documents I have, but could not find time for it. Here it is : "La sémantique générale pour tous" http://www.geocities.com/semantique_generale/ . It is in construction, very simple at the start. Yannick Chosse will work at it as well.

  Harcelement professionnel yahoo group :

Following the recent loss of my latest job, and the delirious work conditions and relations I have been confronted to there, I have subscribed to a French group on professional harassment, put up by a searcher of the CNRS. The level of the group is quite high, and I am surprised to state that it is quite common for even high level jobs as well. It comes out that the similarities between the members are the age (people grown up in the sixties), competency , which the present work organisation does not want to hear about, common expectations as far as relations are concerned , and a will to get organized to find solutions.

This leads to a number of exchanges and analysis of the present domain of work, and imagining alternatives. The whole seems complementary to me to the Academie 23, so I'll include in the site articles which will come out of this.

See two articles already on line on the subject at http://www.geocities.com/clemsnide23/infi1.html and http://www.geocities.com/clemsnide23/infi2.html

Some ideas coming out of it :

  • Putting up a work agency at the scale of a set of people, on different criteria of evaluation than the ones of the formal work agencies :

- CV : Including in the CV activities one is good at and enjoys to do, independently of diplomas and official recognition, the experiences which are not properly speaking "professional", but which imply useful knowledge on the human level,

- gather the different CV, projects, etc., in the same place, so people can get in touch with each other directly.

  • Determine new rules for work and economy based upon a livable structure of relation, and contracts based upon fair rules. This goes with giving up with pyramidal hierarchic structure.

Due to the number of people who are presently sent off from work all over the world, soon there will be more jobless people that workers. This means that they become a bigger human group which can get organized at its scale, without relation with the present economy.

The good side of globalization is that it is possible to make it at the international scale. In case somebody is interested, let me know.
